Lake Cuyamaca

There are a lot of lakes to choose in Southern California. But there are some that shine high above the rest. Lake Cuyamaca is one of those lakes.

Lake Cuyamaca

Lake Cuyamaca offers camping, boating and yes fishing. Lake Cuyamaca is perfect for the family and is even open for mans best friend. Dogs are allowed and welcome, but please keep them out of the water and on a leash. All Lake Cuyamaca asks is that you clean up after your pets.

Lake Cyamaca is a San Diego water source (helix water dist.)

NO Swimming

Lake Cuyamaca offers free fishing lessons every Saturday morning at 10 am, so even the city slicker can learn to fish with the best of them, or at least try to. Hmmm… that sounds like a competition; yes they have those here as well, but not the way you are thinking. Lake Cuyamaca really surrounds itself with family pride. So the competitions revolve around family time.

Lake Cuyamaca has over 100 camp sites and some that are right next to the lake for those fishermen who would like a fresh trout for breakfast, or an early start on the one that got away.

If you do not have a boat, motor boats are available for rent. Paddle boats and canoes are also available for rent during certain seasons.

Lake Cuyamaca stocks their lake with 44,000 pounds of fish and is the only lake in San Diego that is able to stock trout.  Lake Cuyamaca also has Florida Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Crappie, Bluegill and Sturgeon.

For those that want to enjoy some nature while the rest of the family fishes, the lake itself is 3.5 miles all the way around, and makes for a wonderful walk.

There is so much more to enjoy at Lake Cuyamaca. Cabin camping for the ones not wanting to pitch a tent, fly fishing and even the availability for tube fishing to reach those hard to fish spots that boats even have a hard time reaching. Lake Cuyamaca even has a GPS system to show you where the fish are.

Happy fishing, camping, bird watching or what ever else you would like to do. Just make sure you tell your friends about Lake Cuyamaca.

Lake Cuyamaca, Southern California
Introduces the World Famous Alpers Trout

Alpers TroutLake Cuyamaca has long been known as the San Diego answer to the high Sierras, many of families have fished for the Rainbow , German Brown and Steelhead trout, without the long drive. Lake Cuyamaca is proud to announce the introduction of the Alpers trout.

For the first time in San Diego the tail walking Alpers trout will be planted starting in November 2006. The management of Lake Cuyamaca has made arrangements to have this prized fish put in the lake. This was done without knowing the problems of the San Diego city lakes and the lack of stocking on their part.
