There is nothing like the real thing, quoted from many different songs and advertisements. And yet it finds its way into the fishing world. Plastic baits are wonderful, and a lot of time and thought goes into making the plastic worms move and wiggle like real worms. True you can rip plastic worms in half and do what ever you want with them, but sometimes those fish just want the real thing.  

Meal Worms, thrown in with a bobber wiggle and squirm just right and crappie love them.  Earth worms, those slimy worms have many different names such as, Euro worm, Belgian worm, Belgian Reds, Minis, Reds, Giant Red worms. They squirm with the best of them. Sometimes a bobber does not work with them. So out there you can buy at most fish stores are the neatest little things called “magic worm blower.” what they do is puff up the earth worm with air. Now I can hear a lot of people saying how cruel is that, to puff up and earth worm. Well you are jabbing a hook in and out of their bodies throwing them into a lake, or river and letting a fish eat them. So puffing up a worm does not seem that bad.  

The great things about these worms are there is no need for them to be refrigerated like some live bait. There will be no mistaken mid night snack, and opening up a container full of worms. If any one has ever done that before, there is either the overwhelming need to visit the nearest bathroom, or a quick peak out side to see how long it is until sun rise. 

Another type of rig to use for live bait is a Berkley PowerRig. This set up lets you adjust the sinker to the desired depth. This is usually used with powerbait, but with this treble hook it is perfect to add a small earth worm to, to catch those pan sized trout, or larger.  

For those that prefer plastic baits, there are unlimited ones to pick from; from Berkley worms, to Bill Dance. Every one has an idea how a real worm should move when it is made to a plastic imitation. Some of the benefits of using plastic bait are the variety of colors out there. You  can search until pigs fly, but I do not think there are any real worms out there that are pink with blue glitter smelling like garlic and glow in the dark.
